Today, December 1st is World AIDS Day (WAD). WAD is observed every year on December 1st and is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.
Tonight, in an effort to commemorate WAD, World AIDS Day Detroit is hosting a concert at the Detroit Opera House featuring American Idols: Detroit’s own Malaya Watson, Music of Keri Lynn Roche along with Kimberley Locke, Ben Briley, Devin Velez, and Melinda Doolittle; with special guest, Mother of Ryan White, Jeanne White-Ginder. You may still purchase tickets. For purchase or for more information, please visit: http://worldaidsdayus.org/
World AIDS Day Detroit (WADD) is a grassroots organization dedicated to increasing awareness and knowledge about AIDS/HIV. Started in 2011, by Wayne State University medical student, Phillip Kucab, WADD’s goal was to bring together the various groups and individuals to commemorate World AIDS Day on December 1st.
By providing a singular resource, WADD continues to bring greater awareness and exposure to the efforts of local organizations to commemorate World AIDS Day. It is their mission to build an active, strong and engaged community.
